Build Your Own Glider
He came to me holding two sticks with a bread tie-up rolled in the middle and said, ‘Mom please I need hot glue. Can you stick these together?’
As always this was our 3-5 pm slot and luckily, the girls had just gone down for their nap. I pulled out my camera and followed him to see what he had in mind.
How To Build Your Own Glider
6 Craft sticks
Two bread bag tie- ups
A pair of wheels that he had pulled out from a broken wagon
A touch pin that had fallen off the noticeboard
He got me to glue the two sticks together and then stick on the wings.
You have to fold the tie-up a bit. We tried all sorts before this worked!
Just stick the tie-up between sticks, one third of the way, on one end to look like this.
Stick the wings.
The other tie up was curved on the ends and he wanted me to put the wheels in before sticking it to the underside.
One end of the tie-up is stuck on the wing and the other end goes on to the body of the plane.
The wheels will roll in between allowing the plane to slide.
Then came the hard work. He wanted to cut the sticks but they would with his scissors. I offered to cut them but no, this was his project. He did manage to saw it off with our scissors. We stuck it into an ‘X’. The touch pin was pressed into the front tip of the plane but the glue came loose so we stick it again together with the pin. A bit more glue on to the tip and we stuck the propellers.
That is not very clean but… will do!
He has a glider. He is proud. Me too.

My son had a lot of fun with it. Even if your child is too young for this, you can make it in a few minutes yourself and let them draw an airport around it or a runway… All kids love planes!
You can also tie it up and hang it for them. It is perfect to display too.
You can pin the steps together for reference here:
