Top Parenting Posts of 2014
As 2014 comes to an end, let us talk about the best parenting posts here on Words n Needles. I am joining a group of bloggers to share our top parenting posts of the year.
This year has been a fantastic year for this blog. When I revived this blog last year, I wondered what I would write about if I were to blog more often. What is one topic that I am very passionate enough to write about every day. The ‘mom’ in me said that I was only passionate about my kids and wanting to see them laugh and play. There was nothing more important to me than that. My kids are the only reason why I had given up my career to become a SAHM. I wouldn’t want to do anything to take that time away from them. If this blog can help me in becoming a better mother; if I can give my children something in return for the time to write a post, then only will I come back to write it, I had said.
So, all though, all these years while I had been writing about crochet, tatting and crafts, I turned my focus to writing about my experience as a parent. I had hopes that I could help someone. I wanted to share with you my experience and my passion to let children be themselves. I am proud to tell you today, one year later, that this blog did help me with my parenting abilities too. My husband agrees! I discovered new ideas to play with my children and also, I found ways to help my children overcome the anxiety that they had been subjected to last year when I had taken ill. I am so grateful to all those of you who came here to read my posts and comment. I never imagined that I would get so many followers and so many fans. Thank you to each one of you.
I’d like to share with you all the parenting posts that were popular this year. Here are our top parenting posts from 2014. Let us countdown to the #1 post.
#10. Children and Your Cup of Love: I wrote this post for Valentine’s Day. I have always felt that with each child your heart grows a little bigger with all the love that fills it. That love starts to show in the things that you do. The love that your children give you… the love that your spouse has for you and you for him… Everything grows.
#9. Tantrum Time 3-5pm: The most difficult part of my day is the 3-5 pm slot. I fear it and I have been told by my friends and family that I am not the only one who does. They fear the 3-5pm slot in their day with their kids too. I talked about all the ways you can keep your sanity yet let your children relax too.
#8. More Tips to Feeding your baby Solids. This was the sequel to the post ‘Baby Let’s Eat’. I found that there were still too many questions unanswered about feeding your baby. As a new mum , I had so many questions and so many things had gone wrong. I addressed all those questions with what really works.
#7. 5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t ban the Internet For Your Kids : Those days, I was reading a book about Internet for your kids. My son had been annoying me with wanting more computer time and he had hacked into my files too. I mentioned it to my mother and she had remarked that I should just ban it for him. The post was what me told myself. You cannot ban the internet. It just isn’t possible and if you do, you have to face all those consequences. When you ban the internet, you do more damage than good.
#6. Baby Let’s Eat: My best post of the year! I love love this topic because I believe I have gotten good at it. I struggled really hard with my second child because my first one was an easy baby. I had to read books, keep diaries, experiment with new recipes and still struggle to get her to eat. When Ticklebum came along, I put all the information to practice on her and this time it worked! I gave this advice for niece and nephews and it worked for them too. This year, I got a chance to test it again on Cuppycake. This post was written after that.
#5. Are you ready for potty training. When you have a baby and a toddler, potty training can be a juggle. My family were pressurizing me to potty train my 18 month old. I was reluctant. I tell you all the common sense as to the what ‘Ready to Potty Train’ really means for the mother.
#4. 5 Questions to Ask When Your Child Gets Home From School: When my son comes home from school, I don’t want to drill him with questions. I want him to come home laughing, to a happy welcoming home where he can relax. I want him to tell me though, how his day went. I have a trick for this and it lies in my 5 questions.
#3. Calm and Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep. I wrote this post to celebrate Sensory Day. We have had different bedtime issues with our children and we have tried so many things. We don’t believe in crying out. Everytime my child doesn’t sleep, I found that there was an underlying reason. I tell you 15 ways to check and solve those battles.
#2. The Mani and Pedi Cure: This post was written in 2011. I had solved my son’s nail biting habit and my advice worked for so many other moms when I shared it with them on facebook. I updated this post and re published it.
#1. Shopping With Toddlers: I am a Self confessed shopoholic and becoming a parent has never deterred my determination to find that perfect ‘nothing’. I prefer my kids with me when I go shopping because when I go, I go for hours and leaving children in other people’s care is never an option. I like my husband to be with me when I shop too because I have found that together, we find a better ‘nothing’. How do my children cope? I tell you how we shop with three kids and two under two. My advice that has worked for my family to take my kids shopping too.
What is your favourite post from among my posts? I’d love to hear from you.
