Paper Crafts to Celebrate International Sloth Day
October 20th is the International Sloths Day. Did you know about Sloths and why they have a day for themselves? I am writing this post today to raise awareness about these endangered species. We also have a few paper crafts to share that will help you introduce these cute creatures to your little ones.
The reason for my making these crafts with my kids was to introduce them to these little creatures. We don’t have sloths in our part of the world but I needed a conversation starter to talk about endangered species and what is causing them to go extinct.
Sloths are kind creatures and they look so cute carrying their babies and hanging from trees. I love how their faces look like they are smiling. I also love how sloths symbolize calm, carefree attitude. I thought they would make excellent examples of teaching children to be themselves however they feel the world feels about them. People keep them as pets too so I thought my children would love to know about this creature.
We have been trying a few paper crafts to celebrate Sloth Day. We made a paper plate sloth, a few bookmarks and a handprint sloth. The bookmarks will be posted as a post of its own but here are the instructions to make the other two crafts.
Paper plate Sloth
What you need:
- Paper plate
- Color pencils
- Draw a sloth face with its claws using pencil as shown in the picture.
- Outline using a black felt tip or marker.
- Time to give it to your kids to color!
What you need:
- A piece of card (you can also use cardboard from packaging)
- Dot markers / golden sketch pen
- Draw the outline of your or your child’s hand.
- Draw the face of the sloth on the thumb part of the handprint. Draw the claws on the four fingers.
- Let your child dot up the sloth with the marker or sketch pen.
I hope you enjoyed our craft. My toddler and preschooler loved this activity. They found it really cute. If you have older child you can involve them or let them carry on independently.
